Openfire for customer support

$
0
0

I am building a live customer support chat to a web page and have been thinking about using Openfire to achieve this.

But I am a bit unsure if I really need this or if I should just create a basic .NET app and use SignalR.

Does anyone have any experiences with this?

Does it exist any 3rd party plugins for handling support requests (replying to requests from customers)?

For the clients I am thinking to use AG-Software

AG-SoftwareMatriX JS » AG-Software

Some feedback would be highly appreciated.

Authentication fails when testing LDAP Admin account

$

I am stuck at the last step of the setup stage; Here are some details:

Environment: Windows Server 2008 r2, Active Directory, SQL server Express.

LDAP authentication tests successfully;

Testing "User Mapping" successfully brings up random users from my AD, so Openfire is clearly able to communicate to it;

group mapping i've left at default and it's throwing an error, but I don't believe I need this configured right now;

When adding an Administrator, Openfire successfully recognizes the active directory account and adds it as Administrator, HOWEVER, when using the Test function to test the credentials, authentication fails with "Password is incorrect" even though it is. If i go further, set up completes and I am stuck at the admin console login page.

What am I missing?!

How to load test Openfire with Clustering?

$
0
0

Once you have installed Openfire Enterprise 3.4.0 and clustering is enabled you are ready to load test the server. Load testing a server means that we are going to simulate thousands of users connecting to the server and generating a lot of traffic to the server.

The first step of a load test is to define the goals that you want to achieve. That means that you will need to know how many concurrent users you will have in your installation, the traffic that they will generate and the expected response time. More precisely, you have to figure out frequency users will change their presences, send messages, ask vCards or join rooms. Once you have defined your expected load and expected results you are ready for the next step which is Create User Accounts.

To create user accounts you need to start Openfire in a single node, install the plugin and follow these steps:

  1. Log into the Admin Console and go to Users/Groups -> Users Creation

  2. Specify a User prefix for example "usr". In this example, the script will generate accounts of the form: usr0, usr1, usr2, usr3, etc.

  3. Specify the number of users to create and the amount of contacts in roster.

  4. Let the script run. The script will run in background and it will print in the stdout the progress of the user creation. Note that creating hundreds of thousands of users may take some hours.

Finally, you need to setup the the load clients. Follow these steps:

  1. Define how many linux machines you are going to use. Note that each linux machine may simulate 60K concurrent users. If you are using many network interfaces it's possible to generate 60K per network interface. You might need to fine tune your linux box to be able to generate 60K connections.

  2. For each machine that will run the load test script you will need to:

    1. Create a folder and download , , , and . Unzip on your working directory

    2. Edit the OpenfireClusterStressTest.xml file

      1. Set amount of users to simulate. All load clients should use the same amount

      2. Set the user prefix to use. This value should match the one used in the userCreation plugin. In our example we used: "usr"

      3. Set startUser to define range of user accounts to use. For example if it is set to 100, the first user to login is usr100, then usr101 and so on. Make sure that each node is using a different range of accounts.

    3. cluster.node: Specify the IP address of hostname of each cluster node that is part of the cluster. Create a new node in the XML file for each cluster node

    4. Make sure that server matches the XMPP domain being used by Openfire. You can get this value from the main page in the admin console.

Execution
  1. Startup the openfire cluster (this includes your cluster nodes)

  2. Run startup.bat for Windows or startup.sh for Linux in each load client

  3. The stress test progress can be seen in the file clustertest.log and also in the openfire console admin

  4. Once all users have logged in the stress test will continue generating traffic until you stop it. Hit any key to stop the load test script.

Problems or questions should be posted to the discussion forums.

Openfire 4.1.1 - Users are being arbitrarily added to groups - Can't delete them

$

We're trying to centrally manage our rosters so all employees can see other departments. However, I'm seeing something I can't explain. I've gone through and cleaned up our groups to simplify sharing. Even before that, I have users that were in groups they never should have been in at all. Now, when I log into the admin console I can see several users in all departments when I only ever added them to one. When I try to remove the user from the group I get the green "User has been removed" message, but the user stays in the group.

This is starting to cause serious problems for us here as now my users rosters are inaccurate. Is there any way I can fix this, or go into the actual database and start ripping people out of groups? What is going on? Please help!!!

Hello cummunity.

I've a Problem with my new openfire installation. At first, sorry my english isn't the best.

I used 4 years openfire on vps ubuntu, with xabber for mobile phone (samsung galaxy s4) and psi+ on my local linux pc.

Now was crashed storage system on my hoster.

The currently constellation can you see on the top.

I installed all new and all was fine. I insert all users and tested some connections. I maked conversations with other users. It worked great. I was happy!

Ok - the configuration, installation and tests have i do from my Home PC. But primary use all my users smartphones with xmpp client software. With my old openfire 3.8.x I've never problems.

A smartphone can used wlan or mobil wan (different networks) . Nobody can currently useful communicate with others. Messages will lost or comes to late.

I searched two days - but i found only one logical information:

I can send some users message with wlan (one ip) but i can only recieved with mobil wan connection (other ip). I see on my openfire server, the communications from one to the other client. To other users can i only send messages over mobile wan and recieve over wlan connection.

JID, Ressource and so on is every time the same, only the ip is changing by the users or me.

In Attachment you can see a little diagram with my problem.

I don't understand what here happens.

Has anyone the same problems?

Has anyone a workaround to better analyze this problem?

Or has anyone a solution for me?

My personal oppinion, because all messages on server comes in, openfire take for the internal identification not only JID, Ressource also will used the ip address.

And also i think the problems has nothing to do with this thread: https://community.igniterealtime.org/thread/54554

Finally, please don't angry, if i postet wrong: perhaps searched on the wrong way here - but i'm only a passionate openfire user - but i'm not a hardcore openfire guru.

1) Memory Leaks up to 2300 Mb at 198 user accounts, process openfire-service.exe (64 bit Openfire on Windows x64 with Java x64 ).

2) http://{server}:9090/user-summary.jsp views ~30% accounts with users included at all grous present. But if I open that groups, that users at them absent.

In fact user present only at one group, to which I added him.

3) Server CPU Usage seems to be low, about 7-15% of 2 CPU cores XEON E5-2620v2 (virtualized OS environment). But admin Web-console responds very slowly.

Random Dances Users and Groups

Since upgrade to 4.1 many Things about Users,Groups and Rostres have become strange or broken.

Without any Pattern or Regularity any Users on Admin Console shows as Member some Groups.

openfire.png

Above You can see "solonenko" and "surina" as member of many Groups

And next screen as Detail of User Groups:

openfire-fullpage.png

Actually at the same time the User "solonenko" has no Groups and User "surina" is Member of Groups "hz2" and "omts"

SQL Output:

Your query: select count(*) from ofGroupUser where username like 'so%';

Your response:

C1
0

Your query: select * from ofGroupUser where username='surina';

Your response:

GROUPNAMEUSERNAMEADMINISTRATOR
hz2surina0
omtssurina0

Next restart of Openfire server users, which get wrong Group List today will be changed randomly but users "solonenko" and "surina" will be in right List

Server restarts resulting in some users appearing in all groups

$

Strange one this is. It appears to be more of an UI bug.

If I restart the server via console (service openfire restart) once the server has restarted the webgui will display some users as if they've been added to every group available.

I've tried deleting the user, recreating and then restarting the server but the user again appears to be in every group also appears to be the same users every time.

Although if I go to administrate a group which they are supposedly to be in; they are not. If I mark the user as an admin in their correct group and then revoke the permissions, the webgui will then report correctly the correct groups until next restart where it will appear that the user is in all groups.

Happy to give more info if required.

Hypervisor: XenServer 6

OS: Debian 8 / OpenFire 4.1.1

Just kind of annoying.

Edit: It appears that any users that are online during the restart will get the bug

Hi!

Recently I installed the latest version of Openfire and configured for LDAP authentication.
At the same time faced with the following problem. When the number of sessions is greater than 100 (approximately), new clients can not connect to the server.
What can influence it and how to fix it. that would connect could all (about 300) users?

Openfire 4.1.1 and Android Conversations didn't work

Hello,

we use Openfire 4.1.1 with Ubuntu 16.04 and Oracle 8 Base (also tested with openjdk8 and with internal Users or LDAP).

Users with Conversations can't connect, all other clients (Chatsecure - IOS, Jitsi / Pidgin ... - Windows) can connect.

I have no idea what the reason is, after a downgrade to 4.04 - Conversations works.

Openfire 4.1.1 - Lost VCard information for users

$

0

I did a couple of things yesterday morning... not sure which could have caused the issue:

- I upgraded Openfire from 4.0.3 to 4.1.1.

- I added "PLAIN" to my sasl.mechs to resolve an issue where SSO from Active Directory worked fine, but users who did not log in using SSO were having trouble.

I have now lost all of my vcard mappings. A reboot of the Ubuntu server Openfire is hosted on (rather than just restarting the service) did not help.

Any ideas? Nothing else changed.

Thanks.

One Group Stops Working

$

I have a customer running Openfire 4.4.1 on Windows 2012 server with the embedded database. There's two groups, CT and PT. The PT group always works, but the CT group stops functioning periodically. Suddenly everyone in the CT group shows offline, while the PT group works correctly. Everything looks fine in the web interface, but the group will not start working again until the service is restarted.

I don't yet have good information from the customer about how often this happens, but I believe that it's frequent. I've asked them to monitor the issue closely and to report back to me. Until then, anybody have any ideas on the issue with what I know so far?

Thanks,

Rob

Some rooms with history, this history contains messages which have next to a body also an form-data in the message.

A xmpp Client based on Smack-4.2.0-rc3

Openfire has been restarted

When joining this rooms, after a restart of the server, the clients logs errors about incorrect XMPP stanza elements : <x xmlns="jabber:x:data" /> : Parsing form type failed because 'type' is a mandatory attribute of the form element.

the client receives the following (incorrect) message

When I look in the openfire.script database file, I can see the original message in the stanza field of the OFMUCCONVERSATIONLOG table, with a proper form :

It looks like Openfire is not properly interpreting this xml in the stanza field.

OpenFire 4.0.2 in-band registration users not showing (spam)

$

Noticed some s2s sessions to servers we don't usually talk to. Some dark-web related.

We have in-band registration enabled.

Turned on archiving of messages and the thing that sends admin a message when a user registers.

Lo and behold I start to see activity:

A new user with the username 'urkwresy66lpu6' just registered.

A new user with the username '309xyungivwpfi' just registered.

Shortly thereafter s2s sessions appear so they are sending messages out!

Now what I found interesting was

1) Only a small number of these accounts ever show up in my user list. (Users/Groups -> Users -> User Summary)

2) While they are registering and sending messages out I do not see them in Sessions -> Active Sessions -> Client Sessions

I turned on message archiving and notice they do not use OTR and they seem to be sending spam or notifications out about some kind of Russian Silk Road TOR site.

Russian SilkRoad / rusilkusru6f57uw.onion-

[...truncated]

My Qs:

1) How can someone do in-band registration and not show in user-list or have a session showing ?

2) Is there a plugin or mechanism we can use to say "if a user sends a message with keyword xyz lock his account" ?

Can't connect to Openfire server

$

I've got Openfire installed and set up, pointing to my domain. I can get to the admin console from mydomain.com:9090, I've got a FQDN set up at xmpp.mydomain.com, the console recognizes my SRV records and passes the DNS check, and I can ping both mydomain and xmpp.mydomain.com. My firewall is set to allow tcp and udp connections through 5222 and 5269. The service is running.

As far as I can tell, everything should be working, but when I try to connect as myusername@xmpp.mydomian.com from any client, I get "server not found". Since there's no connection being made to the server,  I don't have any error logs to tell me what the problem even is.

Is there anything else I should be looking at / neglected to configure? Any other information you'd need? I've followed every installation guide I can find, and I'm at a complete loss. There must be some simple thing I'm not seeing, but I just haven't been able to find it.

Help me, Openfire Support Community. You're my only hope.
